Hull House Museum's 'Radical Craft' Exhibition Hosts Successful Mending Workshop in University Village Little Italy

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/University Village Little Italy ·

The Jane Addams Hull House Museum in University Village Little Italy is drawing community members together with its 'Radical Craft' exhibition, which will continue through December 2025. The exhibition, which opened in September, celebrates the neighborhood's rich textile history and immigrant crafting traditions.

Last weekend, the museum hosted a special community workshop as part of its ongoing exhibition programming. Visitors participated in a shared meal and explored the exhibition that celebrates the heritage of immigrant communities while highlighting the artisans of Chicago's Near West Side. The event allowed participants to engage with the neighborhood's cultural legacy in a hands-on, communal setting. Attendees described the experience as "one of the best historic house tours" they'd experienced, praising the "innovative displays and exhibits" and the "deep dive into craft, history, social justice and Chicago."

University Village Little Italy residents interested in exploring more of the neighborhood's immigrant history are encouraged to visit the museum, which remains free with welcomed donations and open daily except Mondays and Saturdays. The museum continues to serve as a cultural cornerstone connecting the past to present-day social justice initiatives. Community members can share their experiences on social media using #RadicalCraftChicago or join the upcoming December workshops featuring local artisans demonstrating traditional techniques.
