The People's Cafe Transforms Former Cultura Space into Avondale Community Art Hub

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Avondale ·

Avondale's vibrant cafe scene is evolving with The People's Cafe officially opening its doors at 2943 W. Belmont Avenue. The new establishment, which opened Wednesday, November 11, is taking over the former location of Cultura Ccafe, which is rebranding to Terra Coffee and relocating near the Belmont Blue Line stop.

The People's Cafe is creating more than just a coffee shop—it's building a community art hub. In partnership with the Avondale Neighborhood Association's arts team, the cafe is inviting local artists to display artwork centered around democracy, peace, and justice. Those interested in contributing can apply online. Owner Sommers also plans to create a democracy grief wall featuring activists and organizers who have left behind an impact. "A lot of everyday people is what makes democracy happen," she explained. The cafe will operate Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and weekends from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with special events and workshops scheduled for evenings.

Residents and visitors alike are invited to visit this new community-focused business, which adds another vibrant spot to Avondale's growing reputation as one of Chicago's most dynamic neighborhoods. Whether you're seeking your morning coffee fix or a space to connect with neighbors and enjoy local art, The People's Cafe offers a welcoming environment where community voices can be heard and celebrated.
