Wrigleyville's popular dine-in movie destination Alamo Drafthouse is embarking on an exciting new chapter as part of Sony Pictures Entertainment's recently established Sony Pictures Experiences division. The theater, located at 3519 N. Clark Street just steps from Wrigley Field, will continue operating under the beloved Alamo Drafthouse brand while benefiting from Sony's extensive resources and commitment to theatrical exhibition. Michael Kustermann, the current CEO of Alamo Drafthouse, will also remain in his current position.
Sony has confirmed it "will continue to welcome content from all studios and distributors at the dine-in theaters." Alamo Drafthouse, which opened its Wrigleyville location in January 2023, has distinguished itself in the entertainment landscape with drinks, dine-in food service, and a cool vibe that became a favorite of cinephiles. The acquisition aligns with Sony's increased focus on live experiences, following its launch of Wonderverse Chicago, an immersive entertainment space featuring "Ghostbusters" and "Jumanji" virtual reality experiences and other attractions tied to Sony films. Neighborhood residents and visitors are encouraged to visit the theater to experience its unique blend of cinema, cuisine, and community that continues to make it a standout entertainment destination in Wrigleyville.
