Hull House Museum's 'Radical Craft' Exhibition Hosts Community Workshop in University Village Little Italy

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/University Village Little Italy ·

The Jane Addams Hull-House Museum in University Village Little Italy continues to draw community members with its innovative 'Radical Craft' exhibition, which will remain on display through December 2025. The exhibition, which opened in September 2024, showcases Hull House's rarely exhibited textile collection, hand-bound books from Ellen Gates Starr's bindery, restored paintings by Alice Kellogg Tyler, and ceramics from the historic Hull House Kilns.

This past weekend, the museum hosted one of its popular community workshops as part of the exhibition's ongoing programming. Visitors participated in a shared meal and explored displays highlighting the artisans of Chicago's Near West Side while celebrating the heritage of immigrant communities. Museum visitors describe the experience as "one of the best historic house tours" featuring "innovative displays and exhibits" that provide "a deep dive into craft, history, social justice and Chicago."

University Village Little Italy residents interested in exploring this celebration of the neighborhood's cultural heritage can visit the museum any day except Mondays and Saturdays. Admission remains free with welcomed donations. Community members are encouraged to share their experiences on social media using #RadicalCraftChicago or join the upcoming December workshops featuring local artisans demonstrating traditional techniques.
