Imani Village Senior Residence Brings 70 Affordable Homes to West Pullman Seniors
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Pullman ·
West Pullman residents celebrated a significant community milestone last week as Mayor Brandon Johnson joined Alderwoman Michelle Harris, Department of Housing Commissioner Lissette Castañeda, Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III, and neighborhood leaders for the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the newly completed Imani Village Senior Residence. The City-backed project adds 70 new affordable homes to the area while providing independent living opportunities tailored to the needs of seniors.
Designed by Johnson and Lee Architects, the five-story structure includes a diverse mix of housing options with 60 one-bedroom units and 10 two-bedroom apartments. The building meets Enterprise Green Certification requirements, with space for rooftop solar installation, and offers various common areas designed to foster community connections. This development represents just the first phase of the ambitious Imani Village master plan, designed as a fully sustainable urban community encompassing a 23-acre site owned by Trinity 95th. Future phases are expected to include additional senior housing, urban agriculture facilities, and community amenities.
Residents interested in learning more about Imani Village can attend an informational session at the Trinity United Church of Christ community center next Saturday at 10 AM. The project aims to empower underserved residents of the Pullman Community and surrounding neighborhoods through sustainable housing with intentional green design elements to lower utility costs and protect the environment. Community representatives described the development as "a beacon of hope" that will be the first holistic, sustainable, and green community sponsored by a faith-based entity in Chicago.
