Logan Square's Lincoln Lodge Hosts Record-Breaking Latina Comedy Festival with 20 Showcases
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Logan Square ·
Logan Square residents are enjoying a cultural milestone this weekend as The Lincoln Lodge hosts the fourth annual Latina Comedy Festival, featuring an unprecedented 20 comedy showcases - more than double last year's offering. The event, running throughout the weekend at the venue on 2040 N. Milwaukee Ave., showcases performers from across North America during Hispanic Heritage Month and includes several well-known Chicago talents like Melissa DuPrey, Gwen La Roka, and TV personality Patti Vasquez.
This year's expanded festival introduces several Spanish-only standup performances for the first time, responding directly to community feedback. "It was really important to add those this year," notes festival co-founder Janice Rodríguez. The festival's partnership with The Lincoln Lodge has been crucial to its growth, with the venue's three theaters allowing organizers to "give the comedians more time instead of having only seven shows and everyone's doing a couple of minutes." The diverse lineup showcases various perspectives within the Latina experience. "There's diversity within the diversity, and that's something we'll be proud of," Rodríguez explained.
Logan Square residents interested in supporting this cultural celebration can attend performances throughout the weekend. The Lincoln Lodge, which operates as a non-profit comedy club with no drink minimum, features stand-up comedy and variety showcases regularly on Friday and Saturday nights, making it a continuing resource for neighborhood entertainment beyond this special festival.
