South Loop Celebrates Season of Giving with Community-Led Thanksgiving Food Drive

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/South Loop ·

South Loop residents are coming together in the spirit of Thanksgiving through a neighborhood-led food drive hosted by South Loop Neighbors at Overflow Coffee on South Michigan Avenue. The annual event, which kicked off Wednesday morning and continues through the holiday weekend, has already collected over 200 non-perishable food items for local families.

"Our community always shows up when neighbors need support," explains Brian Jenkins, founder of Overflow Coffee, which serves as both a craft coffee shop and coworking space supporting entrepreneurs. "This year's response has been particularly heartwarming with so many residents stopping by before heading to Millennium Park for the holiday festivities." Volunteers will be sorting donations throughout the weekend, with distribution scheduled for Monday in partnership with local community organizations.

Residents interested in contributing can drop off non-perishable items at Overflow Coffee through Sunday. The timing perfectly complements other South Loop holiday activities, including the Chicago Thanksgiving Parade downtown and the opening weekend of the Millennium Park Holiday Market, making it convenient for neighbors to participate while enjoying seasonal festivities in the area.
