Chicago Thanksgiving Parade Dazzles The Loop as Weekend Foot Traffic Breaks Records
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/The Loop ·
The iconic Chicago Thanksgiving Parade marched down State Street on Thursday morning, bringing larger-than-life floats and marching bands to the heart of The Loop. Spectators lined the route between Ida B. Wells Drive and Randolph Street for the annual procession, which concluded by 11am, giving attendees plenty of time to return home for holiday festivities.
The parade comes as downtown Chicago continues its remarkable post-pandemic revival, with recent data showing record-breaking visitor numbers. From June through August, downtown hotels booked nearly 3.6 million room nights, a 4.3% increase over 2024 that topped pre-pandemic records. "We're seeing a lot of positive momentum year-over-year," noted Anthony Zoccola, market intelligence analyst at Avison Young. "It's coming off the back of higher-performing submarkets." Among the businesses benefiting from increased foot traffic is The Original Rainbow Cone, which opened in late September on Michigan Avenue. "Having a Michigan Avenue location really solidifies ourselves as a Chicago institution and a historic brand," said John Buonavolanto of Original Rainbow Cone.
