Witty Midwestern Brand Raygun to Open at Iconic State & Madison Corner in The Loop
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/The Loop ·
The Loop's retail revival continues as Raygun, the popular Midwestern clothing and print shop known for its irreverent, locally-themed merchandise, prepares to open at the iconic intersection of State and Madison streets. Taking over a former Claire's store at 5 N. State Street, this will be the company's second Chicago location, following its successful Andersonville store which opened in 2019.
Founded by Mike Draper in Iowa in 2005, Raygun has built a devoted following through its humorous, regionally-specific designs and progressive messaging. "Downtown! Yes indeed. Little shirt shop in the big city!" Raygun proclaimed with characteristic humor in their announcement. The new location is one of more than 30 businesses that have opened or plan to open in the Loop by the end of 2025, according to the Chicago Loop Alliance, contributing to the neighborhood's ongoing post-pandemic revival.
Raygun joins other new businesses like Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Mendocino Farms, Hello Kitty Café, and River Roux Café and Bistro in bringing fresh energy to downtown Chicago. Construction is currently underway, with opening anticipated for March 2026. Loop residents and visitors can watch progress at the storefront while anticipating the witty, Chicago-themed merchandise that will soon grace this historic corner at the origin point of Chicago's street grid system.
