Rogers Park Illuminates Holiday Season with New Winter Garden Installation at Loyola Beach
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Rogers Park ·
Rogers Park residents are being treated to a magical new addition to the neighborhood this holiday season as the Rogers Park Business Alliance unveils an interactive winter garden light installation at Loyola Beach. The installation, which opened to the public on November 28, features sustainable solar-powered light displays designed by local artists that celebrate the community's connection to Lake Michigan.
The project emerged from a collaboration between the RPBA, Loyola University's Environmental Studies program, and the Chicago Park District, transforming a previously underutilized section of the beachfront into a vibrant winter attraction. Visitors can enjoy illuminated walkways, artistic light sculptures, and informational displays about local ecology. Several Rogers Park businesses including R Public House and Smack Dab are participating in the initiative by offering special "Beach Lights" menu items, with proceeds helping fund educational programming at the site.
Community members are invited to the official lighting ceremony scheduled for December 5 at 5:30 p.m., which will include performances from local musicians and a winter farmers market featuring Rogers Park vendors. The installation will remain open through February, with weekly guided tours available on Saturday afternoons for those interested in learning more about the sustainable technology powering the displays.
