National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame Progresses on New Facility as University Village Connection Continues
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/University Village Little Italy ·
The National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame, a beloved institution that called University Village Little Italy home for nearly two decades, is making significant progress on its new permanent location in Chicago's Dunning neighborhood. According to recent construction updates from April 2025, the museum's new facility at 3417 N. Harlem Avenue is advancing toward its anticipated spring 2026 opening, with modern technology being incorporated for enhanced interactive displays.
While the Hall of Fame had to relocate from its Taylor Street location in 2019 when its building was sold, the institution has maintained strong ties to its University Village Little Italy roots. Ron Onesti, Hall of Fame president and Taylor Street native, envisions the new location as an anchor for a burgeoning 'Little Italy' district on the Northwest Side, extending the Italian-American cultural presence that has long been centered in University Village. Despite the move, the organization continues its community engagement through various events, including a scheduled golf outing on July 14, 2025, at Royal Fox Country Club and its 46th annual gala and induction ceremony planned for October 24, 2025.
University Village Little Italy residents interested in supporting this cultural institution during its transition can participate in upcoming events and follow construction progress updates on the Hall of Fame's website. Community members are encouraged to share their memories of visiting the museum's former Taylor Street location on social media using #NIASHFLegacy to help document the organization's continuing cultural significance to Chicago's Italian-American community.
