Palmer Square Arboretum Debuts Winter Art Installation Celebrating Tree Collection
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Palmer Square ·
Palmer Square Park, which made history this fall as Chicago's first officially designated arboretum, is unveiling a special winter art installation this weekend to showcase its impressive tree collection. The park received Level I arboretum accreditation from the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program in September, making it the first Chicago Park District property with this prestigious designation. The arboretum classification gives more weight to tree preservation and education in the Palmer Square area, with species now clearly labeled throughout the park.
Visitors to the December 6-7 installation will also have the opportunity to learn about another exciting Palmer Square development - the rehabilitation project at 3101 W. Palmer Square by local firm Via Chicago Architects. The design team will share insights into their process of preserving the landmarked building while addressing housing needs in the neighborhood. The weekend event offers residents a chance to appreciate both the natural and architectural heritage that makes Palmer Square unique, according to organizers. Community members are encouraged to dress warmly and bring cameras to capture the winter beauty of what has been described as "Chicago's most beloved tree sanctuary."
