Historic Rogers Park Movie House to Reopen as The 400 Theater Under New Operator

Rogers Park's beloved movie theater at 6746 N. Sheridan Road is getting a second act as Michigan-based exhibitor Jordan Stancil has agreed to lease the former New 400 Theaters and relaunch it as The 400 Theater. Stancil confirmed to Block Club Chicago that he will restore operations at the Rogers Park institution, which closed two years ago. While the exact reopening date hasn't been announced, Stancil said he'll keep residents updated through the theater's Facebook page.
The New 400 closed in 2023, ending a 111-year run that made it the oldest movie theater in Chicago and one of its last independent cinemas. Since then, the space has sat dormant until Stancil's recent commitment to revitalize it. His plans include installing new projection technology and offering diverse programming that pairs first-run studio releases with independent and foreign films, along with community events. The move could restore a corner movie palace that has anchored neighborhood culture for more than a century.
"Everyone is excited to honor The 400 Theater's unique place in the Rogers Park community," said Stancil. "Independent theaters enrich local culture by offering spaces for shared experiences, and I look forward to partnering with the community to make The 400 a cultural anchor once again." Residents interested in supporting this revival can follow updates on the theater's social media pages and look forward to experiencing films in this historic venue when doors reopen in the coming months.
