Hull House Museum Announces Special Winter Workshops for 'Radical Craft' Exhibition in University Village
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/University Village Little Italy ·
The Jane Addams Hull-House Museum in University Village Little Italy has announced a special series of winter workshops beginning this December to complement its popular 'Radical Craft' exhibition. The museum has been offering arts education classes throughout the exhibition's run, continuing the settlement house's long tradition of making arts accessible to all community members.
The exhibition, which runs through December 19, 2025, showcases Hull-House's rarely exhibited textile collection drawn from diverse immigrant traditions, handbound books from Ellen Gates Starr's bindery, restored paintings by Alice Kellogg Tyler, and ceramics from the historic Hull-House Kilns. The displays highlight how arts education at Hull-House provided immigrant neighbors with opportunities to experience what Jane Addams called the "restorative power in the exercise of a genuine craft." Community members are invited to participate in the upcoming workshops where they can learn traditional crafting techniques while connecting with the neighborhood's rich cultural heritage. The museum remains free with welcomed donations and is open daily except Mondays and Saturdays.
