Hull House Museum to Host December Workshops for 'Radical Craft' Exhibition in University Village
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/University Village Little Italy ·
The Jane Addams Hull-House Museum in University Village Little Italy is enhancing its winter visitor experience with a special series of December workshops connected to its popular 'Radical Craft' exhibition. The exhibition, which runs through December 19, 2025, showcases Hull-House's rarely exhibited textile collection drawn from diverse immigrant traditions, handbound books from Ellen Gates Starr's bindery, and newly restored paintings by Alice Kellogg Tyler, alongside ceramics from the historic Hull-House Kilns.
True to the settlement house's long tradition of making arts education accessible to everyone, the museum is hosting hands-on workshops in ceramics and textiles throughout December in the historic Residents' Dining Hall. These sessions are led by community organizations that continue Hull-House's radical approach to arts education, offering visitors opportunities to experience what Jane Addams called the "restorative power in the exercise of a genuine craft" while connecting with the neighborhood's rich cultural heritage. Residents and visitors interested in participating can check the museum's website for the December workshop schedule, and are encouraged to share their experiences on social media using #RadicalCraftChicago.
