Archer Heights Resident Advocates for Safer Streets as Complete Streets Project Progresses
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Archer Heights ·
As winter settles over Chicago, Archer Heights residents are actively participating in shaping the future of their neighborhood through the ongoing Archer Avenue Complete Streets project. The comprehensive street redesign, which extends from 47th Street to Western Avenue, aims to create safer pathways for everyone traveling through the neighborhood.
Archer Heights resident Gerardo Zavala has emerged as a vocal supporter of the initiative. "I've just gotten into biking recently, and what has kept me away from biking more has been the lack of protected bike lanes on the Southwest Side," Zavala shared at a recent community gathering. The project includes significant safety enhancements such as improved pedestrian crossings with "Walk" signals, marked crosswalks, and protective curb extensions. Transit riders will benefit from new bus boarding islands that streamline pickup and reduce travel times.
According to Alderman Julia Ramirez, "Archer complete streets project is about creating the safety infrastructure for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists." Residents interested in learning more about the Complete Streets project can visit the Chicago Department of Transportation's website or attend upcoming community feedback sessions as construction continues through January 2026.
