Fall Is Here and Archer Park Is Ready: A Full Season of Free Programming Kicks Off This Week

Summer may be winding down, but Archer Heights' own Archer (William Beatty) Park is just getting started. The Chicago Park District's fall 2026 season of programming officially gets underway this week, and the park's fieldhouse calendar is stacked with recurring weekly activities for children and families running all the way through mid-December.
The timing couldn't be better for families settling back into school-year routines. Today — Wednesday, September 9 — marks the very first session of a new weekly program running each Wednesday from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. at the Archer Park fieldhouse. That Wednesday slot repeats every week through December 9, with only two exceptions: the sessions on October 28 and November 11 are skipped. A separate Thursday program also launched yesterday, September 8, offering two back-to-back sessions: one from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and another from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The Thursday programming runs through December 11 as well, skipping October 29 and Thanksgiving Day, November 26.
For families who prefer weekends, Saturday programming at Archer Park is set to begin September 12 and run through December 12. The Saturday lineup includes multiple distinct time slots: a morning session from 10 to 11 a.m., a midday session from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., an early afternoon block from 1:45 to 3 p.m., and a late afternoon session from 3 to 4:30 p.m. — making it one of the most activity-dense days on the park's fall calendar. All Saturday sessions skip October 31 to account for Halloween. A Friday afternoon program running 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. rounds out the weekly lineup, beginning September 11 and continuing through December 11 (with October 30 skipped). A Monday program from 4:30 to 6 p.m. also begins September 14 and runs through December 7, skipping October 12 and October 26.
Archer (William Beatty) Park has served this corner of the Southwest Side since the post-World War II era, when it was established as part of a district-wide effort to expand recreational access in underserved Chicago neighborhoods. The fieldhouse itself was added in 1970, and the park has since grown into a year-round anchor for families in the 60632 zip code — a community that is nearly 80 percent Hispanic and home to roughly 13,400 residents who rely on affordable, accessible public programming.
