Greater Chicago Food Depository Unveils Holiday Volunteer Initiative at Archer Heights Headquarters

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Archer Heights ·

The Greater Chicago Food Depository is bringing holiday cheer to Archer Heights with a special seasonal volunteer program at its neighborhood headquarters. The initiative, which runs through December 24th, invites community members to participate in food packaging sessions that will help ensure food security for vulnerable Chicagoans during the holiday season.

The expanded program follows Governor Pritzker's recent visit to the facility, where he joined volunteers to pack food and supplies earlier this month. Additionally, the Food Depository recently announced plans for a significant expansion of its Archer Heights headquarters, which will include a new 40,000-square-foot meal preparation facility, a nutrition education center, and a community cafe. "This project represents our commitment to the Archer Heights community and to addressing food insecurity across Chicago," noted a Food Depository representative.

Archer Heights residents interested in participating in the holiday volunteer initiative can register through the Food Depository's website or visit their headquarters on South Archer Avenue. The organization will conclude December's activities with a community appreciation event recognizing the neighborhood's contributions to this vital resource that collected over 46 million pounds of food in fiscal year 2025 to support families facing food insecurity.
