Morgan Park Commons Mixed-Use Development Advances to Revitalize West Pullman Commercial Corridor
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Pullman ·
West Pullman residents have reason to celebrate as the Chicago Plan Commission recently approved the long-awaited Morgan Park Commons development, with groundbreaking planned for Spring 2026. The 13-acre mixed-use project, located at the intersection of 115th and Halsted streets bordering West Pullman, will transform a site vacant for 15 years into a vibrant community hub.
The ambitious development will create more than 244 units of rental housing, with 16,000 square feet of retail/office space, 13,000 square feet of performing arts and culinary education space, and 2.3 acres of public parks connecting to the historic Major Taylor Bike Trail. Phase one includes two residential buildings with 70 apartments, featuring studio to two-bedroom units, live/work spaces, ground-floor retail, 81 car parking spaces and 36 bike racks. Abraham Lacy, president of the Far South Community Development Corporation leading the project, describes it as "a new wave in West Pullman—making it more walkable, providing more resources, and expanding housing options."
Residents interested in learning more about Morgan Park Commons can visit the Far South CDC website or attend upcoming community meetings where representatives will share details about construction timelines and opportunities for local engagement. The development represents the "first mixed-used development along Far South Halsted in more than half a century," signaling a promising new chapter for the West Pullman community.
