Grant Park Winter Festival Set to Transform South Loop This Weekend with Local Artisans and Ice Activities

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/South Loop ·

South Loop residents looking for weekend entertainment will find a festive winter wonderland at the inaugural Grant Park Winter Festival taking place this Saturday and Sunday, December 20-21. The event, organized by the Chicago Park District in collaboration with South Loop Neighbors, transforms the park's south end into a celebration featuring local artisans, food vendors, and seasonal entertainment.

The festival highlights South Loop's vibrant small business community with over 25 local vendors showcasing handcrafted goods, seasonal treats, and unique gift items perfect for last-minute holiday shopping. "We wanted to create a community-centered event that brings neighbors together while supporting local entrepreneurs during the holiday season," explained festival coordinator Maya Johnson. Visitors can enjoy ice skating, warming stations with complimentary hot chocolate, and live music performances throughout the weekend. The event coincides with the final weekend of ice skating at the nearby McCormick Tribune Ice Rink, making it an ideal opportunity for residents to enjoy multiple winter activities in one outing.

South Loop neighbors interested in attending can stop by anytime between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on either day, with the most extensive programming scheduled during afternoon and early evening hours. For those looking to participate as volunteers, the South Loop Neighbors organization is still accepting help for various festival stations.
