Mars Factory Redevelopment Community Meeting Set for December 17 in Galewood

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Galewood ·

Galewood residents will have a crucial opportunity to help shape the future of their neighborhood as McCaffery Interests prepares to present detailed plans for the historic Mars Wrigley factory redevelopment. The highly-anticipated Community Information Session is scheduled for Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the Sayre Language Academy Auditorium (1850 N. Newland Ave.) from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The 20-acre property, which has produced iconic treats like Snickers and Milky Way bars for nearly a century, will transform into a mixed-use development under McCaffery's direction. According to preliminary information, the proposal includes non-luxury apartments with 20 percent designated as affordable housing. Some community members have already voiced concerns about high-density construction potentially not matching Galewood's character and are requesting more transparency regarding future management plans.

Galewood residents interested in participating in this transformative discussion are encouraged to attend the December meeting. As Steve Green, Chairperson for Galewood Neighbors, previously noted: "From the beginning, Mars has prioritized community benefit for this site." This session represents a significant opportunity for neighbors to directly influence how this landmark Spanish Colonial Revival building will serve the community for generations to come.
