National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame Announces Winter Lecture Series in University Village Little Italy

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/University Village Little Italy ·

The National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame is strengthening its connection to its University Village Little Italy roots with the announcement of a special winter lecture series beginning January 2026. Though the Hall of Fame relocated from its Taylor Street location in 2019, the organization continues to honor its heritage through community engagement with its original neighborhood.

The upcoming series, announced this week by Hall of Fame president Ron Onesti, will feature prominent Italian-American athletes and sports historians presenting at various venues throughout University Village Little Italy, including Conte Di Savoia's community room and the historic Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii. The winter program builds on the organization's successful 2025 initiatives, including their 46th annual gala held in October and various community events that maintain strong ties between the institution and the neighborhood where it flourished for nearly two decades.

Community members interested in attending the winter lecture series can register through the Hall of Fame's website beginning December 23. Residents are encouraged to share family stories and memorabilia connecting Italian-American athletic heritage to the neighborhood's history using #NIASHFLegacy on social media.
