City Council Approves 50-Unit Apartment Building Near Logan Square's Iconic 'Greetings From Chicago' Mural
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Logan Square ·
Logan Square's vibrant Milwaukee Avenue corridor is set to welcome new neighbors as City Council approved a six-story, 50-unit apartment building adjacent to the neighborhood's famous 'Greetings From Chicago' mural. The project from Kiferbaum Development Group will transform a long-vacant lot at 2240 N. Milwaukee Avenue, adding new housing just steps from the California Blue Line station.
The development will include ground-floor retail space with three storefronts suitable for restaurants or service businesses, adding to Logan Square's thriving commercial district. Residents concerned about preserving visibility of the popular mural will be pleased to know that developer Joseph Kiferbaum worked with Alderman Daniel La Spata to ensure the design maintains public access to the beloved neighborhood landmark. 'This is a really catalytic site on a block of potentially catalytic developments for the 1st Ward,' La Spata remarked at the zoning committee meeting, noting that over 80 percent of feedback received was positive.
The transit-oriented development will include ten affordable units in compliance with city requirements and will feature a mix of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments. Construction timelines haven't been announced, but neighborhood residents can expect the project to begin taking shape in early 2026. Community members interested in following the development's progress can attend upcoming 1st Ward meetings or contact Alderman La Spata's office for updates.
