Portillo's to Open Flagship Michigan Avenue Location in Near North

Near North residents will soon enjoy Chicago's iconic hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches without leaving the neighborhood, as Portillo's prepares to open on Michigan Avenue. The popular Chicago restaurant chain is establishing a new dine-in location at 300 N. Michigan Ave., just south of the Chicago River, according to building permits recently filed with the city.

The new Portillo's will occupy the ground floor of a 47-story residential tower, bringing its beloved menu of Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, chopped salads, and chocolate cake to one of the city's most prominent shopping and tourist areas. While the company has not yet announced an opening timeline, construction permits show work is underway to retrofit the space for restaurant service.

This strategic location places Portillo's within easy walking distance of the Magnificent Mile, making it a convenient option for both neighborhood residents and visitors. The addition of this Chicago institution to Michigan Avenue continues the trend of high-profile food establishments enhancing Near North's reputation as a premier dining destination, joining other recent notable openings like Petite Edith in River North and the upcoming Zarella pizzeria at Grand and Wells.
