Vitalogy Bar Breathes New Life into Historic Printer's Row Building

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/South Loop ·

South Loop's Printer's Row has welcomed an exciting new addition to its nightlife scene with the opening of Vitalogy, a craft cocktail bar housed in the ground floor of a historic 142-year-old building at 723 S. Dearborn Street. Owners Jennifer Wilson and James Shields have transformed the space into a stylish neighborhood hub featuring a long wooden bar, reclaimed fixtures, and even an innovative hydroponic herb garden.

The thoughtfully designed establishment offers global beers and Chicago-inspired cocktails, including the uniquely local "Second City Milk Punch" featuring Malört. Complementing the drink menu is a selection of small plates developed by a chef friend of the owners. The bar's name pays homage to both Pearl Jam's classic 1994 album and an early 20th-century health and wellness encyclopedia once printed at the historic location, celebrating the area's rich printing heritage.

Wilson and Shields envision Vitalogy as more than just a bar, aiming to create a community gathering space for South Loop residents with plans for happy hour deals, cocktail classes, and live music events. Neighbors looking to experience this new Printer's Row gem can visit the cozy spot, which early patrons describe as "chic," "moody," and "a great date place" - perfect for both casual after-work meetups and special evening outings.
