Intuit Art Museum's 'Catalyst' Exhibition Enters Final Weeks in University Village Little Italy

University Village Little Italy residents and visitors have just a few days left to experience the acclaimed 'Catalyst: Im/migration and Self-Taught Art in Chicago' exhibition at the Intuit Art Museum on 756 N. Milwaukee Avenue. The groundbreaking exhibition, which has drawn visitors from across Chicago to the neighborhood since its opening, will conclude on January 11, 2026.
The exhibition, which is part of Art Design Chicago, a citywide collaboration initiated by the Terra Foundation for American Art, has been praised as the first major exhibition to focus on the importance of immigration and migration in the genre of self-taught art. Since opening in May 2025, it has underscored the creative contributions of migrants and immigrants while broadening the scope to include artists deserving of greater attention. Showcasing 22 artists from around the world working in diverse media from fiber to painting to pottery to woodworking, the exhibition highlights the creativity of immigrants and migrants throughout Chicago.
According to exhibition co-curator Dana Boutin, a key theme of the show explores how artists make space in their lives to practice art. "People who have migrated and immigrated to Chicago have found a number of different ways to do that in their work through inventive environments in their homes and their workplaces," Boutin explained. Neighborhood residents are encouraged to visit during these final weeks and share their experiences using #CatalystChicago on social media, connecting with the rich cultural heritage that continues to shape University Village Little Italy's diverse community.
