Tu Casa Project Prepares for 2026 Opening as Humboldt Park's New Puerto Rican Community Hub

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Humboldt Park ·

A vibrant new Puerto Rican community center is taking shape in Humboldt Park, as sisters Michelle and Melissa Gomez make progress on their ambitious Tu Casa Project. The entrepreneurs, who co-own Dynamic Productions and organize the annual Puerto Rican Festival and Parade, are spearheading this much-needed community hub on Division Street.

The Tu Casa Project will offer comprehensive community services including senior programs, barista training, and a cosmetology school. "Building on the legacy of Chicago's community leaders, we create a home where education and business dreams come to life," reads the project's mission statement. In a touch of numerical serendipity, the center's address at 2626 W. Division St. in the 26th Ward aligns perfectly with its targeted 2026 opening.

The Gomez sisters aim to raise

5 million for the project and are actively collaborating with local businesses to make this vision a reality. According to Alderperson Jessie Fuentes, the center will provide "an opportunity for Puerto Ricans, not just in Humboldt Park but across the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois, to have a space where they can enjoy culture in all the ways that Puerto Ricans should." Residents interested in supporting or learning more about the Tu Casa Project can contact the 26th Ward office or attend upcoming community meetings.
