Beloved Gale Street Inn Restaurant Reopens Under Local Ownership in Jefferson Park
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Jefferson Park ·
Jefferson Park residents are celebrating the return of a neighborhood institution as the iconic Gale Street Inn at 4914 N. Milwaukee Avenue officially reopened its doors on December 4, following a five-month closure that had left the community concerned about losing the beloved establishment.
New owner Paulo Villabona, a Jefferson Park resident who lives just blocks from the restaurant, has breathed new life into the 62-year-old landmark. With over 30 years of restaurant industry experience, Villabona has maintained the restaurant's signature menu items while adding family-friendly options. "To me, buying the restaurant is all about the community," said Villabona. "Our goal is to keep making amazing food, allow the phenomenal staff to continue to shine, and ultimately keep this pillar of the community alive for another 60 years."
The reopening has been enthusiastically welcomed by neighboring businesses and residents alike, with Mike Jeffers, general manager of the nearby Copernicus Center and Gateway Theater, noting that it provides a valuable dining destination for theatergoers. Community members interested in supporting this revived Jefferson Park institution can follow updates on the restaurant's social media pages, with Villabona planning to reintroduce live jazz and blues music in the coming months.
