Avondale Gardening Alliance Launches 2026 Almanac and Winter Planning for Mindful Living Garden
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Avondale ·
The Avondale Gardening Alliance is kicking off 2026 with excitement as they prepare to distribute their highly-anticipated annual almanac at Revolution Brewing. The community organization, which promotes urban agriculture throughout the neighborhood, has opened pre-orders for their 2026 AGA Almanac at $20 each—a resource filled with gardening tips specific to Chicago's climate and community events.
The almanac represents the organization's core philosophy that "three major pillars of health and happiness are connection to nature, connection to community, and being of service." It contains a wealth of information including scientific research, artistic elements, traditional farming knowledge, and seasonal guidance to help residents engage with both nature and neighbors. Inside, readers will find practical resources for growing everything from "the perfect tomato" to maintaining native plants, all while strengthening Avondale's reputation as a community-focused neighborhood.
Meanwhile, planning is already underway for the 2026 growing season at the Mindful Living Garden located at 3323 N. Drake near Avondale Park. This year, volunteers are developing new raised beds, educational components, and improvements to the garden's walking paths. The community garden not only provides fresh produce to address food insecurity through Avondale Mutual Aid but also serves as a gathering space where residents can connect with nature in one of Chicago's most greenspace-poor neighborhoods. Neighbors interested in participating can attend the almanac release party on December 19 at Revolution Brewing or join the organization's regular community workdays once the growing season begins.
