Award-Winning Bartender to Open 'Bar Bambi' in West Town This January

Near North residents will soon have a stylish new cocktail destination as acclaimed bartender Katie Renshaw prepares to open Bar Bambi at 1703 W. Chicago Avenue in mid-January. The 2,300-square-foot venue will be Renshaw's first solo concept after a distinguished career that includes winning the 2019 US World Class Bartender of the Year title and crafting cocktail programs at some of Chicago's most prestigious establishments.

Bar Bambi promises to deliver a unique drinking experience with what Renshaw describes as an "ethereal, otherworldly escape" featuring dream-like interiors designed by global firm Gensler. The venue's centerpiece will be a dramatic light installation with color-changing capabilities, complemented by floor-to-ceiling windows and a mirrored back bar with neon accents. Cocktails will showcase Renshaw's signature creativity through molecular techniques, fermentation, and clarification, while a kitchen will serve elevated bar food with global influences.

Near North cocktail enthusiasts can look forward to visiting the 50-seat venue, which joins West Town's increasingly vibrant restaurant and bar scene. Renshaw also plans to host industry pop-ups and establish a mentorship program for up-and-coming bartenders. Bar Bambi will initially operate Wednesday through Saturday evenings, with potential expanded hours based on neighborhood demand.
