West Englewood to Benefit from Mayor Johnson's $33 Million Community Development Initiative

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Englewood ·

West Englewood residents will soon see new economic opportunities as part of Mayor Brandon Johnson's recently announced $33 million in Community Development Grants. The initiative, funded through Johnson's

.25 billion Housing and Economic Development Bond, aims to revitalize commercial corridors throughout Chicago's South and West Sides, with a focus on community-driven development and neighborhood-specific needs.

"Lasting prosperity within our communities begins with revitalization efforts that center equity, community-driven development, and each neighborhood's unique needs," said Mayor Johnson. "Through this investment, the City is doubling down on its role as a partner, empowering the businesses and organizations that are already serving our people and shaping our city's future." West Englewood, as part of Greater Englewood, has been identified as one of the priority areas in the city's INVEST South/West commercial corridor improvement strategy, which focuses on reactivating neighborhood cores that have historically served as centers for pedestrian activity, shopping, services, and community gatherings.

The next round of funding applications is due February 13, 2026, providing another opportunity for West Englewood entrepreneurs and community organizations to access resources. Residents interested in applying for grants or learning more about upcoming projects can visit Chicago.gov/CDG or contact the Department of Planning and Development for information about how to participate in neighborhood improvement efforts.
