Palmer Square Businesses Eligible for City's $33 Million Community Development Grants

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Palmer Square ·

Palmer Square entrepreneurs and community organizations have a fresh opportunity to secure funding as Mayor Brandon Johnson announced $33 million in community development grants earlier this month. Local businesses can apply for support through the Neighborhood Opportunity Fund (NOF) program, which uses downtown construction fees to boost commercial vitality in Chicago neighborhoods.

The announcement comes as Palmer Square continues to cement its reputation as one of Chicago's most vibrant pocket neighborhoods. With applications for the next funding round due by February 13, 2026, Palmer Square business owners have a valuable opportunity to join the 58 neighborhood improvement projects already selected citywide. "Lasting prosperity within our communities begins with revitalization efforts that center equity, community-driven development, and each neighborhood's unique needs," Mayor Johnson stated when announcing the initiative.

Neighborhood leaders encourage Palmer Square entrepreneurs to attend upcoming business education webinars hosted by the Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection, which offers free guidance every Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning. Business owners interested in applying can find application details on the city's website or attend one of the upcoming Chicago Small Biz Expos scheduled throughout 2026.
