The Jane Addams Hull House Museum in University Village Little Italy has launched an exciting new interactive exhibit this January, offering residents and visitors a fresh perspective on the neighborhood's rich immigrant history. The exhibit, which opened last week, features newly discovered artifacts and enhanced digital displays that bring to life the stories of the diverse communities that shaped this vibrant Chicago neighborhood.
Located at the University of Illinois Chicago campus, the museum occupies the last remaining building of Hull House, where Jane Addams - the first American woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize - established her groundbreaking social settlement in 1889. The new exhibit highlights the contributions of Italian, Greek, and other immigrant communities that once populated the area. Museum Director Maria Ramirez shared that the renovation includes expanded educational programming designed to engage local schools and community groups, reinforcing the neighborhood's commitment to preserving its unique cultural heritage while embracing its evolving identity.
Community members are encouraged to visit the museum during its extended Thursday evening hours throughout January 2026, when special guided tours will offer insights into the neighborhood's transformation over the decades. Residents can share their family stories and photographs at the newly installed digital memory station, contributing to an evolving archive that documents University Village Little Italy's rich multicultural legacy.
