Chicago's National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture in Humboldt Park is preparing to transform its grounds with a stunning new outdoor educational space, garden, and enclosed glass atrium. The ambitious project, which museum officials estimate will cost between $3-4 million, will enhance the historic landmark building at 3015 W. Division St.

According to museum president and CEO Billy Ocasio, the expansion will honor "the visionary legacy of Jens Jensen," the acclaimed landscape architect who once worked in the museum's stables. "This project embodies the vision of growth and respect, bringing immense value to the 26th Ward and the entire city of Chicago as home to the only Puerto Rican museum in the continental United States," Ocasio explained. "We are not dwelling on the past. Our goal is to move our museum and this community forward." Residents and visitors can currently experience the museum Tuesday through Saturday with free admission, and join upcoming events including workshops and exhibitions scheduled throughout January and February 2026.

Community members interested in supporting the museum's expansion can visit their website for donation information or attend one of their upcoming events to learn more about the project's timeline and vision for creating a vibrant cultural hub in the heart of Humboldt Park.
