Ravenswood's Lillstreet Art Center Marks Half-Century Milestone with Anniversary Celebration

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Ravenswood ·

Lillstreet Art Center, a cornerstone of Ravenswood's vibrant arts community, is celebrating its remarkable 50-year journey as a creative workspace for artists of all skill levels. Founded by Bruce Robbins in 1975, the center evolved from a chance encounter with ceramics into what is now one of Chicago's most respected artistic institutions.

The milestone celebration kicked off with a 50th Anniversary Holiday Party on December 5, featuring a festive mix of complimentary refreshments, live music, open studios, and art demonstrations. Visitors enjoyed the premiere of "Dream a Lill: 50 Years of Molding Makers," a documentary chronicling the center's remarkable history, alongside an exhibition showcasing work by Lillstreet Studio Members in the Annex gallery. Since relocating to its current 40,000-square-foot home at 4401 N. Ravenswood Avenue in 2003, the former gear factory now houses 27 classrooms, significantly expanding the center's capacity to serve the community.

Ravenswood residents interested in exploring their creative potential are encouraged to visit Lillstreet to learn about upcoming classes, workshops, and exhibitions planned throughout 2026 as part of the anniversary celebration. Whether you're a seasoned artist or simply curious about trying something new, this neighborhood treasure offers a welcoming community space where creativity continues to flourish after five remarkable decades.
