Seven-Story Mixed-Use Development Advances in Northern Wicker Park

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Wicker Park ·

Wicker Park residents will soon see a major transformation at 1704 North Milwaukee Avenue as slightly altered plans for a new mixed-use development move forward. Developer Senco Properties, the same team behind the Dinkel's Lofts redevelopment, submitted a zoning application this month for the project located at the corner of West Wabansia Avenue near the northern end of Wicker Park.

Architecture firm FitzGerald has designed the seven-story structure that will replace a one-story commercial plaza. The plans include a site-wide podium featuring nearly 11,000 square feet of retail space earmarked for some existing plaza tenants, such as CorePower Yoga. Above the retail level, two floors will contain 67 parking spaces – a significant reduction from the 105 spaces originally announced. The development adds much-needed density to an area close to public transportation while maintaining space for local businesses that have become neighborhood staples.

Wicker Park residents interested in learning more about the development or providing feedback should watch for upcoming community meetings. This project represents a continuing trend of transit-oriented development in the neighborhood, helping maintain Wicker Park's vibrant mix of residential and commercial spaces.
