Morgan Park Commons Development Set for Spring 2026 Groundbreaking Near West Pullman
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Pullman ·
West Pullman residents can look forward to a transformative neighborhood development as the Morgan Park Commons project prepares for a Spring 2026 groundbreaking after receiving Chicago Plan Commission approval last December. The ambitious $65 million mixed-use development, located along the South Halsted corridor at the intersection of West Pullman, Morgan Park, and Roseland neighborhoods, will create a vibrant community hub on the 13-acre site of the former Jewel grocery store and Halsted Indoor Mall.
The Far South Community Development Corporation is leading the project, which will include 244 residential units, 16,000 square feet of retail and office space, 13,000 square feet dedicated to performing arts and culinary education, and 2.3 acres of public parks and outdoor space. The development will feature pedestrian pathways connecting to the historic Major Taylor Bike Trail and area public transit. The first phase will include two buildings containing 70 apartments with a mix of studios, one- and two-bedrooms, along with innovative "live/work" units that include bonus work or lounge areas. "This is almost the downtown of West Pullman and at a crucial intersection that ties together three neighborhoods," said Abraham Lacy, President of Far South CDC.
Residents interested in learning more about this transformative project can attend upcoming community meetings hosted by the Far South CDC, where further details about construction timelines and housing applications will be shared. The organization will also provide updates on their complementary Maple Park Marketplace redevelopment nearby, which plans to bring a new dine-in restaurant, health center, and grocery store to the area.
