Historic 400 Theater Set to Reopen in Rogers Park Under New Management

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Rogers Park ·

Rogers Park movie enthusiasts have reason to celebrate as the historic New 400 Theaters at 6746 N. Sheridan Road is set to reopen under new management. Theater operator Jordan Stancil has confirmed he's leasing the property with plans to revive the 113-year-old movie house that closed in 2023, returning to its original name as simply "The 400 Theater."

Stancil plans to program a diverse mix of first-run studio releases, independent and foreign films, and community-oriented events while upgrading the venue with modern projection and sound equipment. Neighbors and film fans are already expressing cautious optimism about seeing the marquee lit up with regular showtimes again. "Everyone is excited to honor The 400 Theater's unique place in the Rogers Park community," said Stancil. "Independent theaters enrich local culture by offering spaces for shared experiences, and I look forward to partnering with the community to make The 400 a cultural anchor once again."

While no firm reopening date has been announced, the timeline will depend on equipment installation, permits, and renovation plans. Rogers Park residents remain cautiously hopeful that the neighborhood's oldest movie house is poised for another chapter in its storied history. Neighbors interested in updates can follow the theater's new Facebook page or contact Alderwoman Maria Hadden's office for more information.
