New 40-Unit Apartment Building Gets Green Light at Humboldt Park-Ukrainian Village Border

A long-vacant lot at 2652 W. Chicago Avenue will soon be transformed into new housing after Alderman Gilbert Villegas (36th) announced his support for a proposed four-story, 40-unit apartment building with ground-floor retail space. The development by Barrett Homes will bring new life to the site that previously housed an Advance Auto Parts store but has sat empty for several years.

The project, which will include 23 parking spaces and designate six units as affordable housing, was selected from three options presented at a recent community meeting. Dozens of neighbors gathered to provide feedback on the proposals, with the final design balancing community needs with development goals. The decision follows three community meetings held since last summer, where residents expressed concerns about parking and neighborhood impact.

Humboldt Park residents interested in learning more about the development timeline or providing additional input can contact the 36th Ward office. The project represents continued investment in the area and will bring both new housing options and retail opportunities to this vibrant section of Chicago's Northwest Side.
