University Village Little Italy has been selected as one of the featured Chicago neighborhoods for the 2026 Chicago Architecture Biennial's 'SHIFT: Architecture in Times of Radical Change' exhibition. The prestigious citywide event, running through February 28, brings together artists, architects, designers, and community members to explore innovative urban design solutions.

The selection highlights University Village Little Italy's unique blend of historic Italian heritage architecture and contemporary university-influenced design. Local businesses along Taylor Street are participating by hosting installations that reimagine how traditional storefronts can adapt to changing community needs while preserving cultural identity. The exhibition includes interactive walking tours showcasing the neighborhood's architectural evolution from its immigrant roots to its current status as a vibrant educational and cultural hub.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to explore the neighborhood-specific installations throughout February, with guided tours available every Saturday starting at Arrigo Park. Community members can also participate in upcoming workshop sessions on February 15 at the UIC campus, where architects and urban planners will collaborate with locals on future-focused design concepts for the area's continued development.
