Galewood's Tree Ambassador Program Reaches Milestone with 130 Trees Planted, Spring Expansion Announced

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Galewood ·

Galewood residents are celebrating a major environmental milestone as the neighborhood's Tree Ambassador Program has successfully planted 130 trees throughout the community. The initiative, led by Galewood Neighbors, a community organization of approximately 300 residents, businesses, and board members, continues to transform the neighborhood's landscape while promoting environmental sustainability.

The success of the program is fueled by remarkable community participation, with volunteers logging over 900 hours to support the initiative. "We could not successfully manage this program without our amazing Galewood community!" notes program leadership on the Galewood Neighbors website. The Tree Ambassador Program is supported by numerous members, including those who have completed specialized Tree Ambassador training and others who simply have a passion for environmental stewardship. As February ends, the organization continues accepting tree requests for spring plantings and has announced upcoming community events including a special Tree Walk with Arborist Dave Kusnierz of SavATree planned for May 2026.

Residents interested in participating can request a free tree by emailing [email protected] or visiting the organization's website to learn about volunteer opportunities at Rutherford Sayre Park and upcoming tree-planting events. The initiative represents Galewood's commitment to creating a cleaner, greener neighborhood while fostering community connections through environmental stewardship.
