Habitat for Humanity Brings 20 New Affordable Townhomes to West Pullman, Boosting Homeownership on the Far South Side
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Pullman ·
West Pullman's homeownership landscape is getting a major boost, thanks to Habitat for Humanity Chicago's largest real estate development to date — a 20-unit affordable townhome project right in the heart of the neighborhood. The development drew more than 50 community, governmental, and corporate partner representatives to its groundbreaking, signaling deep, long-term commitment to the Far South Side community.
The two-story townhomes will feature individual garages, three- and four-bedroom floor plans, and two community green spaces — and they're located directly across the street from the future 12-acre Morgan Park Commons development, positioning residents at the center of West Pullman's broader renaissance. All units will be sold through Habitat Chicago's Affordable Homeownership Program, ensuring qualified buyers pay no more than 30% of their gross income on housing costs. "West Pullman has many incredible assets on which to build," said Jennifer Parks, Habitat Chicago's Executive Director, "and inviting 20 new homebuyers to invest in this community alongside other long-tenured homeowners creates a lasting impact both at an individual and neighborhood level."
This project adds momentum to a neighborhood already seeing transformative investment, including a planned Cottage Grove Avenue extension with streetscape improvements running from 115th to 130th Street. Residents interested in learning more about Habitat Chicago's Affordable Homeownership Program or volunteering on a future build day can visit habitatchicago.org to get involved.
