Vitalogy Pours New Life into Printer's Row — And The 78 Finally Breaks Ground with Fireworks

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/South Loop ·

South Loop residents have two big reasons to celebrate this week. First, a brand-new neighborhood bar has arrived in the heart of historic Printer's Row. Vitalogy, a welcoming community-focused hangout, has transformed the ground floor of a 142-year-old building into a warm gathering spot featuring a long wooden bar, reclaimed fixtures, and even a hydroponic herb garden. The bar serves global beers and Chicago-inspired cocktails — including a signature "Second City Milk Punch" made with Malört — alongside a small-plates menu developed by a chef friend of owners Jennifer Wilson and James Shields. The duo says they want Vitalogy to be a true community hub, with happy hour deals, cocktail classes, and live music on the calendar.

Meanwhile, just south of Roosevelt Road, history was made at The 78 on Tuesday, March 3rd. Chicago Fire FC officially broke ground on their $750 million privately-funded soccer stadium with a ceremony full of fireworks and fanfare. The open-air stadium will seat more than 22,000 fans and feature a natural grass playing surface, 360-degree viewing, a dedicated supporters' section, and premium hospitality. Fire owner Joe Mansueto called it "a whole mindset shift" as the club moves from tenant to stadium owner. The groundbreaking marks the first major new professional sports stadium development in Chicago in over 30 years — and structural steel is expected to rise this year.

From a historic bar breathing new life into Printer's Row to a future soccer cathedral rising along the Chicago River, South Loop's identity as Chicago's most exciting neighborhood just keeps getting stronger.
