Wrigley Field Is About to Make History — Comedy, Golf & the HBCU Classic Are Coming This Summer

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Wrigleyville ·

Wrigleyville neighbors, baseball season is barely a week old and the Friendly Confines is already lining up one of its most eclectic and history-making summers on record. Three marquee special events are on the horizon — and none of them involve a single pitch from a Cubs starter.

First, mark your calendars for July 11, when Chicago's own John Mulaney brings his Mister Whatever Tour to Wrigley Field — making it the first-ever comedy show hosted at the landmark ballpark. It's a genuine milestone for a neighborhood that's seen plenty of concerts but never a stand-up headline act at this scale. Then, just weeks later on July 24–26, the Savannah Bananas roll into town for their Banana Ball tour, promising their signature anything-goes brand of baseball entertainment at the Friendly Confines. Before all that, golf comes to Clark and Addison: Upper Deck Golf takes over Wrigley Field on May 14–16, letting participants tee off from nine different spots throughout the ballpark — tee times go on sale to the public on April 16. And history buffs, don't sleep on May 2, when Wrigley Field hosts the inaugural Chicago HBCU Baseball Classic, featuring Alabama A&M and Prairie View A&M in an evening matchup following the Cubs' afternoon game.

This summer is shaping up to be one for the Wrigleyville scrapbooks. Grab your tickets early — these events will fill up fast — and get ready to experience your neighborhood ballpark like never before. Check mlb.com/cubs/tickets/events for details and on-sale dates.
