Avondale Is the Place to Be This Spring: Sound & Gravity Returns and Avondale Music Hall's Calendar Is Stacked

Big music news is rolling into Avondale from two directions this week, cementing the neighborhood's reputation as one of Chicago's most exciting cultural hubs. First, the Chicago Sun-Times announced that Sound & Gravity — the acclaimed multi-venue neighborhood music festival — is returning for its second edition over Labor Day weekend, September 3–6. The fest will bring together more than 50 artists performing across seven venues in Avondale and Roscoe Village, spanning genres from jazz and experimental to contemporary classical and indie. Beloved Avondale venue Rockwell on the River will once again be among the host stages, and the festival also doubles as a fundraiser for nonprofit Constellation Performing Arts. Four-day all-event passes are already on sale starting at $240, with single-day passes from $85 — so Avondale neighbors would be wise to grab tickets early.
Closer to this weekend, Avondale Music Hall at 3336 N. Milwaukee Ave. is keeping the energy alive right now with a packed spring lineup. Tonight (Friday, April 10), catch Slayr at 7:00 PM, and tomorrow the venue hosts Day 2 of Forever Deaf Fest featuring Pig Destroyer, Year of the Knife, Weekend Nachos, and Scalp — a heavy-hitting celebration of the hardcore and metal community. Looking further ahead, CIVL Fest 2026, a citywide celebration of Chicago's independent music and performing arts venues, will bring GZA to Avondale Music Hall on Friday, April 24, as part of 40+ shows at venues across the city running April 16–25.
