Momentum Coffee Is Staying in the Sloop — Just Moving Down the Block for a Fresh May Start

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/South Loop ·

Good news for South Loop caffeine devotees: Momentum Coffee isn't going anywhere — it's just getting a new address. The beloved neighborhood café is relocating its South Loop outpost to 1900 S. State Street, taking over the former Burger Point restaurant space, with co-owner Tracy Powell eyeing a first- or second-week-of-May opening.

Momentum Coffee's South Loop roots run deep. Powell and co-owner Nikki Bravo launched the brand in May 2020 with a simple but powerful mission: create a space that connects the community over quality brews. Their original 2119 S. State Street spot started as a coworking hub before pivoting to a full coffee shop during the pandemic — and it quickly became a neighborhood staple. Now that the lease on that location is wrapping up, the team is moving rather than disappearing. "We're pretty much staying with our same customer base," Powell told What Now Chicago. The South Loop café, along with their Millennium Park and Austin locations, serves everything from cold brews and matchas to chai drinks and ginger lemonade.

For Sloopers who've made Momentum a morning ritual, the transition should feel seamless — same community energy, same great drinks, just a fresh new space a few doors down. Keep an eye on their Instagram @momentumcoffeechicago for the exact opening date. Will you be among the first through the door at 1900 S. State? Let the Socialhood community know!
