Fan Favorite Returns: Chicago Pickle Eatery Eyes Avondale Comeback While Central Park Bar's Backyard Oasis Is Open for the Season

Good news is brewing on two fronts in Bricktown this May. Chicago Pickle Eatery — the beloved bodega-style deli that launched in 2023 with a mission to bring New York City-style sandwiches to Chicago's North Side — is working toward a return to its original Avondale home at 3022 N. Milwaukee Ave., after a fire forced the location to close in September. Owner Mohamad Atieh told Block Club Chicago he hopes the Milwaukee Avenue spot will reopen by the end of 2026, and in the meantime, fans can get their fix at the brand's first Avondale location at 3055 N. Milwaukee Ave., where coffee from neighbor Magnifico Coffee Roaster remains part of the menu. The landmark deli's signature Chicago Pickle sandwich — piled with pastrami, corned beef, Swiss, coleslaw, and Russian dressing — has kept Avondale fans loyal through the wait.

Meanwhile, just around the corner in Bricktown, Central Park Bar is officially in full summer mode. The neighborhood gem's sprawling 3,500-square-foot backyard retreat is open every Saturday and Sunday starting at noon, featuring picnic tables shaded by mulberry trees, a fire pit ringed with Adirondack chairs, hammered copper tiki torches, and rotating frozen cocktails. It's the kind of chill, community backyard vibe that makes Avondale feel like no other neighborhood in Chicago.

Whether you're counting down the days until Chicago Pickle's Milwaukee Avenue comeback or settling into a porch swing at Central Park Bar this weekend, Avondale is serving up warm-weather goodness from every angle. Cheers, Bricktown.
