Fresh Faces & Fresh Produce: The Loop Gets a New Leader and Its Beloved Farmers Market Is Back
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/The Loop ·
Two feel-good milestones are giving The Loop an extra spring in its step this week — and together, they paint a picture of a downtown neighborhood that's never been more alive.
First, the Chicago Loop Alliance has a new captain at the helm. Suzet McKinney officially stepped into the role of President and CEO on May 14, bringing fresh energy to the organization that champions everything The Loop has to offer. On her very first day, McKinney was already making calls and casting her vision. "It's a lot about riding the momentum that the Loop is seeing, but also figuring out how we can best steer that momentum and how much we can help it to grow," she told Bisnow. McKinney takes over from Michael Edwards, who led CLA for 13 years, and she's walking into one of the most exciting chapters in the neighborhood's history — with record investment, new residents, and a booming arts scene all converging at once.
Meanwhile, the Daley Plaza Farmers Market is back in full swing, bringing fresh seasonal produce, flowers, prepared foods, and one-of-a-kind Chicago-made products to the heart of downtown every Thursday. It's one of Chicago's longest-running farmers markets, and its return each spring is a sure sign that Loop life is in full bloom. Whether you're grabbing lunch between meetings or stocking up for the weekend, there's no better midday escape in the city. Head to Daley Plaza any Thursday and taste what's new — and stay connected at loopchicago.com.
