Humboldt Park's Puerto Rican Cultural Center to Lead the 2026 Chicago Pride Parade — and the Neighborhood Is Ready to Celebrate
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Humboldt Park ·
Humboldt Park is heading to the front of the line — literally. PRIDEChicago has named the Puerto Rican Cultural Center (PRCC) as the prestigious "Out Front" community group for the 2026 Chicago Pride Parade, positioning the longtime West Side organization at the very head of the June 28th procession through Northalsted.
The honor recognizes the PRCC's decades of intersectional work right here in Humboldt Park — weaving together Puerto Rican cultural identity with LGBTQ+ advocacy, housing justice, and community health. The organization's El Rescate Transitional Living program provides critical housing for homeless LGBTQ+ and HIV+ youth, while their Vida/SIDA initiative delivers culturally competent health and prevention services. The timing couldn't feel more meaningful: the PRCC's own Puerto Rican People's Day Parade on June 13th carries the theme "Celebrando Orgullo Boricua: Puerto Rican Gay Pride, Aquí y Allá" — a celebration of pride that is both deeply local and globally resonant.
"The Puerto Rican Cultural Center embodies the spirit of our 2026 theme, Free to Be Proud," said PRIDEChicago's Director of Community Engagement Terra Campell. For neighbors on Paseo Boricua, this recognition is a reminder that Humboldt Park's spirit of community care and cultural pride extends far beyond the neighborhood's borders. Catch the People's Day Parade on Division Street on June 13th, then cheer the PRCC on at the Chicago Pride Parade on June 28th — this summer, Humboldt Park leads the way.
