Home Sweet Home: Habitat for Humanity's 20-Unit Townhome Project Is Reshaping West Pullman Block by Block
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Pullman ·
West Pullman's housing landscape is getting a major — and lasting — upgrade. Habitat for Humanity Chicago has broken ground on its largest real estate development to date: a 20-unit affordable townhome project right in the heart of the neighborhood. With over 50 community, governmental, and corporate partners rallying behind the effort, this isn't just a construction project — it's a community-wide commitment to West Pullman's future.
The new two-story townhomes will feature individual garages, three- and four-bedroom floor plans, and two shared community green spaces — all situated across the street from the future 12-acre Morgan Park Commons mixed-use development. Every unit will be sold through Habitat Chicago's Affordable Homeownership Program, meaning qualified buyers pay no more than 30% of their gross income on mortgage and home expenses. "West Pullman has many incredible assets on which to build," said Jennifer Parks, Habitat Chicago's Executive Director, "and inviting 20 new homebuyers to invest in this community alongside other long-tenured homeowners creates a lasting impact both at an individual and neighborhood level."
And there's more good news on the block: the Maple Park Marketplace at 115th and Halsted has welcomed UCAN Chicago as a new tenant, bringing critical community youth services directly to the neighborhood's key commercial corridor. Between new homes rising and new resources arriving, West Pullman's momentum is undeniable.
